I’ll be attending GigaOM’s Structure:Data event this Wednesday and Thursday in New York. Its one of the more prominent industry conferences on the subject of “Big Data”, a buzzword which tends to refer to the new types of technology and business opportunities around our ability and, increasingly, our need to analyze HUGE amounts of information.
It’s a fascinating world of extremely colorful names for the major technologies (i.e., Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Zookeeper, Mahout, Storm, etc.) Truthfully, as recently as a year ago, I worried this was all more hype than reality and while you can sensibly point to signs of bubble-dom, I’ve been meaningfully impressed by the very real things that businesses old and new are starting to do with this new technology.
If you’re at the conference, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to @reply me on Twitter (my handle is @BenjaminTseng)!
